About 

Norma Lester

Norma Lester, a Memphis transplant, is determined to be a continuous beacon of light and a voice for justice as long as she has breath. Lester, retired from a successful career in healthcare. She received a Masters in Nursing and a Masters in Health Care Administration from the former Memphis State University, and the University of Tennessee. She currently serves as Board Chair for Alliance Healthcare Services. The pre-eminent provider of behavioral, mental health, and substance abuse. 

Of Norma Lester's many accomplishments, she is a recent recipient of the "Living Legends" award presented by the Shelby County Board of Commissioners, recipient of the MLK Luminary award from the City of Memphis, and proud, former recipient of a Commendation from the United States Women Army Corps. Lester is a long time community activist in Shelby County. With a passion for people and equality, before retiring from the State of Tennessee, Lester enjoyed a rewarding career as:

She recalls one of her most humbling experiences while working in healthcare, "serving as a missionary in Rwanda during the period of civil disobedience."  Lester serves on several committees and currently mentors young women entering the political arena, while remaining actively engaged in the community.

HER-STORY​ 


Served 8 years as Secretary on the County Election Commission. Kept Constituents apprised of election activities through the development of the first ever "Election Commission Newsletter," which was well received by Republicans and Democrats in the Community. 


Concern for election integrity prompted public calling for resignation of former Elections Administrator, twice. First election following his departure, Democrats won every county wide seat!

Served 6 years as Democratic Commissioner of the Registry of Election Finance, one term as Chair.

Past President of Democratic Women of Shelby County where she initiated a College Scholarship fund for graduating seniors. Hosted the largest fundraiser in the history of the organization. 


Currently serves as 1st Vice Chair of Shelby County Democratic Party and Co-Chair of the National Federation Democratic Women's Bylaws Committee. 


 Previously served as 1st-2nd Vice Chair and Secretary of local party.
